Spend a year not understanding and ask again. :)

Programming isn't something you read through quickly and then you're magically a master at it. You'll find that you're going to end up reading through the language multiple times, spend hours upon hours practicing, spend hours upon hours debugging something just to find out it was something stupid, and then you'll rinse & repeat the process.

Programming is difficult and something that requires a lot of patience and practice. This is why most people aren't programmers, and it's also why we get paid a lot of money to program. :D Keep at it and don't give up, it'll pay off in the long run, but it does require a lot of time and effort in the meantime.
