How can I distinguish between memorization and understanding in programming?

Sometimes I feel unable to write a full code without looking at the Internet 😕

Memorization is knowing syntax, understanding is knowing what to look for. While the two can overlap, understanding is more powerful than memorizing. Understanding helps you look for the right things and make distinctions between techniques that are useful, and just outright garbage. Don't worry if you have to look things up, the longer you do it the less you will need to reference, but truth be told you will probably always have to reference something.
