Why is it spelled color in HTML?

I was watching a video on YouTube about who invented the internet and in the video it said HTML was invented in england. if it was invented in england why is spelt color when the English way of spelling it is colour.

English inventor but developed and standardised in the USA.

Why not ^^ I'm french, and I often use english/american words for namming my variables/functions and so use mainly 'color' rather 'couleur' to store a colour value because it's no more a human word but a programming standard one when I use it ;P

programing existed long before html came about. the word 'color' became standard in code possibly around the time the first cga monitors were developed.

i think they didn't want to write colour because it an old word which was created with language.so they wanted to create the word color as programs are made for the modern age
