Should I switch from my C++ to Java?

Recently I started casually learning C++ via a few free online courses, including SoloLearn. I've been getting excited about it and even just my practice programs. I'm less than a month in, taking my time perfecting the skills. Here's the issue: everytime i tell friends, family, or strangers, they tell me either "you should be doing Java." they site it's flexibility and ubiquitousness. And it's even a common theme on this forum! Should i focus more on Java? really? What are the limits of C++ vs. Java?

Sounds like you have been hearing stuff from people who neither knows C++ nor Java. How about some insight from someone who knows both? https://www.sololearn.com/Discuss/280672/?ref=app

meh. you listen to you. What do you want? Btw c++ is all those things and more. If you want to learn Java then do so. Dont feel pressured to conform to someone elses ideal. 😊

When I said I worked with Java a friend said I should get into C++ or VBA. Obviously I dismissed that advice lol. Java is good, not as ubiquitous as it used to be but still widely used. A guy at work has always used C++ but has come into this job using Java and is doing fine. If you can demonstrate you have the skills the language isn't a massive deal as it's fairly easy to jump ship if you need to. There's demand for all sorts of languages

It also depends on what kind of development you would like to go into.If I were you I would focus on c++ before learning Java because as Shrikant V Nivar said Java is a combination of both C and C++.Stick with C++ because knowing it will make it much easier to learn Java.
