Approximately how long does it take to fully become a programmer

I think the question should be how long it will take before you create a real life software or application. think about it.. They are so many things out there that you need to study, you might be able to grab all of them but you won't be able to retain all those informations, that's why even professional programmers make use of Google and stackoverflow. So because of this, you just have to set a challenge for your self, once you know enough via the syntax of the programming language you are using, know about algorithm and data structure. Next thing is to think about a project, make research and start working on the project, ask questions, use Google and stackoverflow and you will be suprised how things will turn out. there is a saying that you learn from doing. Some developers I know started up by getting jobs and learning while working on the project, some companies even pay you to learn and then implement your knowledge on a real life project. that's my advice to you... It depends on how much of your time that you give to coding ...if your primary focus is on coding, then you may finish before graduation from the University just like Mark Zuckerberg[founder of facebook]
