Can AI surpass our intelligence?

@Bogdan yes I knew about that AI that created its own language. Still for those who believe in a God it does not seem like a created thing can be considered more "intelligent" than its creator by the very definition of what intelligence is...

We always remain the creators in making AI so it will always be at best a subset of our own intelligence. Don't think that a neural net based AI could ever be self-aware and it is the best we can do for now. Maybe if someone invented an AI based on a quantum computer there could be something that looks like our own intelligence.

i could programme a new language đ
a. = @ m. = \ y = âŹ!
b. = * n. = / z = **
c. = ! o = ?
d. = # p = ;
e. = : q = +
f. = & r = Ă
g. = _ s = =
h. = ( t = %
i. = ) u = "
j. = - v = v ..
k. = ÂŁ w = Ă·
l. = ⏠x = /\
Ă·:âŹâŹ %(@% %??ÂŁ âŹ?/_:Ă %(@/ ) %(?"_(% đ

A calculator can calculate sums faster then every human on earth.
Which means A.I will process information alot faster then us but really its just as intelligent as its programmed to be and does not surpass ones intelligence.
if A.I developed self awareness and thought for its self then that would be very dangerous as it could surpass our intelligence by overriding it and create its own way of thinking and survival would be its main priority like every living thing on earth.

@Karl, David, and all others who say "we create it, so it cannot surpass us" - you might be surprised...
The very definition of AI is that it can learn and adapt. And if it can learn, it is entirely plausible that it can at one point surpass its creators.
As a small example, just a few days ago news broke of a Facebook AI that created its own language:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/2017/08/01/facebook-shuts-robots-invent-language/
We are still very far away from "true" AI. But when it arrives, I see no reason why it wouldn't be able to exceed our limitations by a wide margin...

@ Immortal what confuses me is
human = self aware = emotions
dog = not self aware = emotions
so i do wonder if emotions are based on how your surroundings feel and not actually how you feel.
because a dog can get scared which is an emotion but its only activated from its surroundings.
so i do wonder if emotions are outside in same as your self awareness which is an emotion??.

Depends on how you define "intelligence" (we still don't have a universally accepted definition).
But yes, it can. Why not?

Yeah I too agree @Immortal.As we know that legendary Gary Kaspoorv was defeated in chess by a computer which too was a sort of AI.In future with advancement of technology AI become more complex.If AI becomes self conscious then start wiping us from the earth as their perspective would be humans wanted to make them slaves.But I don't understand even after this companies like Google, Facebook,Apple etc. still investing billions of dollars into it.
