Because what count for most people is not how good the coding is, but how fancy the result looks like.
This is also why the top ranked codes are all HTML!
If that sounds like jealousy from a python guy who can't use any of its drawing libraries, well, it is ;)

Besides from the personal value a country has to someone, I think people are assuming the country pictures are vectors and are being drawn rather than linked in
