Can you learn html5 without learning html?

you need to know html before html5 - otherwise you will not understand html5 in short. its a prerequisite of sorts. you need to understand all the features in html4 and what works in html5 to work correctly with html in general.

If you learn Html5, you are learning Html. If you learn Html, you are not necessarly learning Html5 ^^ The usual way of learning is to start with basics... and most of basics are mainly presents since oldest versions: that's the reason why you could have the impress that you are first learning oldest version than newest; but in real, you are mostly learning basics shared between versions ;P

HTML5 _is_ HTML - just a newer version with more features - so, the answer is: no

agreed,,,HTML is the basic skeleton,,,and the major system is explained in it,,,and some browsers still dont support html5,,,and HTML5 is just the upgraded version,,so better to learn HTML first

You cannot learn HTML without learning HTML5 as it is the current standard version of HTML.
