Yep, i heard the same things and that's why i wanted to learn Node.js rather than PHP, but after some time i noticed this language was (is) still extremely popular and probably it won't die for years. Q. Is there a future for PHP... ? A. Probably, anyway tecnologies always change and no one can say what will be the most used server_side language in the future, we can just say that tecnologies like Node.js and Django are "taking place" where some years ago there was just PHP. Q. Is there a future for PHP devs? A. Any programmer have to learn for all his life, so... this is not a big deal in any case. ;) Remember that a language is just a tool, if there is a more elegant/efficient way to make something, you should take in consideration to learn it.

In benchmarks php7 is still faster than most other alternatives... But it is true that speed and ease to develop applications and links to popular frameworks are key. And java, python or ruby seem to be better for this.
