Game/Web Development

I have decided to go for web development (frontend/backend) and I was thinking if I can go with game development in unity (because unity has browser based games too).So the question whether I should go for browser based games integrated with my own website or develop pc games and upload them in cloud or is it even a good idea to go for both? Opinions will be appreciated.

@A penguin try filip's E-Book thread. Threre are books on developing game through web development, also unity uses both C# and JS. I believe Web games can be made with unity. Filip thread https://www.sololearn.com/discuss/204501/?ref=app

That would be a lot of work if you don't use Unity. Making a game is already a long process. Either way with Unity you can make WebGL builds as well as PC/Android/Console ones so you could develop for all if you want. Only thing is that the builds are very bloated so not a good choice for small games.

@A Penguin can you pull it off, both game development + web development ? if you are sure you can then go ahead give it a go. if you can't like you tried but it was a little overwhelming then choose the one you are interested in most.

It depends on who you want to reach with your games. Web based games are automatically cross-platform so you don't have to make a build for each platform you want to develop for. Only thing is that browsers are limited compared to say a full screen app like a PC game that can use all the various hardware that is available on it.

@PR thanks for the link but after searching for a while,my question is still unanswered. I do know what to do to get game development started but my question is going for both web development alongside with game development or is it a bad idea?

@Karl T thanks for answering. I do agree with browser being limited but considering it can be used for light weight 2D games and PC for both 2D/3D games. To keep things on track,I say want to develop websites (includes working on both front end and back end) and develop games and put them in my site (be PC or browser based).

Not sure if I wasnt clear enough with my question cuz mostly here dont seem to get my point here. My question doesnt involve "only" game development but also web development as career. I appreciate all people answering here and spending their times looking for right links to refer but here I want opinion on "whether or not its a good idea to go for both game dev and web dev side by side."

@Lord Krishna I chose game with web development cuz they can be blended together (unity web games/html5 games). Web development is good to go (have enough experience to create a website from scratch) meanwhile I tampered with game coding too which was a fun experience which gave me the idea to have both. I guess I will just keep going on with web and game for a while and see how things go. Thanks for good advice 👍

I also recommend 3DS MAX for modeling. It is much more powerful than Blender and is also free of charge for 2 years if you register it as a student (no need for proof of that).

I once made a game using game maker, it was a pixel shooter type game where you had to defeat the boss after going past a couple of rooms; there was also a secret boss that had two crystals protecting him so you had to destroy them first. One thing I thought I did pretty well was differentiate enemy movement and attack patterns. For example one enemy would slide in your direction give or take a few spaces between your character and others would stick to walls and scale them in order to heal other enemies.

Don't use unity for web development, Firefox and Chrome stopped supporting it for quite a while. https://www.pcworld.com/article/2990991/browsers/firefox-will-stop-supporting-npapi-plugins-by-end-of-2016-following-chromes-lead.html
