@Rees
valid points. but that does not mean we can't change that.
if we the learning community of ruby put some effort to support the learner's. change is possible and will happen.

okay , for now to want to know what's the difference or mutual between ruby & Ruby on rails?
or you need to learn ruby first to learn ruby on rails?

Because Ruby is almost useless compared to the other languages here. It's good with the Rails framework but that isn't taught here.

Also, it’s not a useless language outside of rails. It’s a very powerful scripting language and in my opinion should be a cyber-security staple. Scripting and web apps aside, it can also be used in GUI applications on any platform including windows, Mac, Linux, android and iOS. What else is there even left to be able to do with a programming language? And not only can it do everything every other language can, it can accomplish the same tasks while writing less code. Think about the implications of that. It can literally be used to make a whole application more rapidly than can be done using other languages. If you can’t meet a deadline, your program is basically worthless. Food for thought.

Ruby is a good language, but it won't get more learners than Web, and other good old General Purpose Languages...

Ruby seems to be a forgotten language its only 22 years old. Rarely any jobs out there unless its ruby on rails.

You won’t find many people learning their first language as Ruby because most advice points to learning either python or c++. And if you learn ruby, the community supporting it here is very weak. Yet ruby has a very strong and passionate community of its own outside of sololearn. And the resources here aren’t very good at teaching ruby; just a quick introduction, and so in search of more, Ruby learners here turn to the ruby community for more, or they quit or change languages to get the support they need.

I know this is a very old thread, but I’m learning Ruby! I’m still new to coding in general, but I’m going with tutorials and challenges that speak to me.
