What do White Hat Hackers do?

What is the actual detailed work of white hat hackers? I know that they are ethical hackers who find flaws to help companies or website fix things, but could someone give me a better idea of their kinds of processes?

What languages do they mostly use?
How do they even begin to look for flaws?
How does their type of hacking remain ethical?

Black hats are little thieves that knows the weak spot of your house and breaks in then steal all valuable things.
White hats on the other hand are house repairers who have theif-like eyes and can spot the weakness of your house but they repair it for you.

the same language the system is written means if I m working on. a OS h which is written in C I need to learn C

they will fix the known vulnerability means which is common in all system and will find for #buffer overflow..... should learn Violent python book
