Is it necessary to learn C before JAVA?

I am CSE B.Tech first year student and learning JAVA from my college senior though JAVA isnt in my syllabus right now.
But people told me to learn C before Java else i will not be good in JAVA.

I found C++ more confusing than java. C# is probably the most similar.

Not really. But you can learn (or not) something when you study C/C++. In my univ, they will teach you C/C++ first before teaching you Java, C#, etc. In my case, I love C/C++, then hate it, then lovr it again, hate it, then after how many years I went back to C++. (lol)
