What kind of things must I be wary of when developing a multilingual site?

- Files and database to be UTF8 - The direction of the page according to the langauge, English is from left to right (LTR) but Arabic is right to left (RTL)

I don't have experience with it, but you sure will have to play with the html lang attribute, and a some sort of different templates for your site content that you can switch between them, each one on a different language.

Additionally check out, how browsers/clients tell the site which languages they prefer.

translation can corrupt the meaning of the contenant but generaly the structure remain the same graphicaly ;)
