I can't speak for other areas in the world, but I was looking at a posting yesterday in my area, and they were offering $115-150,000 / year salary for a senior Java developer. Entry level around here is about 65-80k. Java is platform independent, so that's a big part of its popularity since it is able to be easily ran on nearly any device. As such, Java is on a LOT of devices, so it isn't going anywhere and you'll have plenty of job opportunity. As for min requirements, what I do is go onto job searching sites like indeed or monster, and I look at the postings. I read the requirements and then I go study/research/educate myself on them so that they're part of my skill set also.
