How important is it to learn batch/shell scripting?

I've been looking into batch scripting over the past few days and have found it to be pretty interesting, yet straightforward. I'm wondering, would it be a good idea to learn one or two scripting languages aside from languages like C++? Also, wondering how we could use batch files within a C++ or other programming languages program?
