Web apps, desktop or mobile? Company oriented (big business apps) or customer oriented? Depending on what you want to write, your choice of language to learn should be different.

I'm not really expert on game dev but Wave engine seems to be the most popular at the moment. It's a C# based engine. You can search their site and see if you'd like to try it. Generally - if you want to make a game, you should focus on finding good engine, not good language. Wave seems solid and is cross-platform so if you like it, then learn C#. If there was any other engine you would choose, learn language the engine uses. Simple. :-)

Open GL is renderer. But when you use engine you usually don't have to work directly with renderer. So use engine.
