Next steps after the completion of a course?

I was curious about ways I could continue learning C++, or any language for that matter, after completing the course here on SoloLearn. I feel like by then, I will have the very bottom-line basics down, but there's so much else to learn to the point where I really don't know where to start. I've heard that when programmers are asked about the language they utilize, they generally reply saying they know most of what's useful. So in that sense, what's useful to know? I've been planning to take a course on data structures and algorithms, as well as familiarizing myself with the Standard Template Library, move semantics for optimizing the transfer of data and reallocating memory, and learning to build custom classes and libraries, but I'm not really sure where to go from there. In short, I want to be able to become proficient with the C++ language, but I also want to be familiar enough with the fundamentals of programming in general so I'd be able to carry that knowledge from language to language. Any suggestions?
