Edsger Dijkstra had this to say about BASIC: "It is practically impossible to teach good programming to students that have had a prior exposure to BASIC: as potential programmers they are mentally mutilated beyond hope of regeneration." https://www.cs.virginia.edu/~evans/cs655/readings/ewd498.html But he was very opinionated.

I refuse to believe any computer Language is a waste of time. I Started with GWBASIC then C/C++ and a bit of x86 assembly. For those who appreciate BASIC. Free basic https://freebasic.net/ - main url https://github.com/freebasic/fbc - GitHub for FREE BASIC.

No. You won't use BASIC anymore. It would be a waste of time. Go learn a high level Object orientated language like Java, C# or C++

You know what? we should all learn Latin. And old Norse probably. That would give us a good insight of English, a good base for all current programming languages !!! :-D

You won't make any use out of it. So why not learn another language for basics but then make a use of it

That was not what I was saying. I am just saying you can use your time better by learning something you can later use
