Try both + add python framework too, really why we need to be constrained with only one platform? For years I was working only Microsoft platforms, but now I don't care the tool just give me some tasks no matter the platform. Alcoholic sometimes or pn regular basis? (take care then) :)

Asp.net is the web equivalent to C# for desktop development. They're both owned by Microsoft. I personally try to keep as much distance as possible from anything MS, but you may enjoy it. Php is just as old as java, and the language the majority of self-taught freelancer types tend to start with. The larger you employ in an organization, the less likely they are to use PHP. That should tell you something in itself. If I were learning web dev I would try to pick a stack that didn't include either. That's just my preference.

I'm using Golang for API. I haven't delved into it enough to see if it's suitable for all server-side logic. It's pretty hot rn and easy to pick up. I also like Vue.js for front-end web development. Really any of them will work it comes down to preference. Have a go at several and see which ones you like the most.
