abandoning challenges

1. what's the mechanics behind leaving a challenge unfinished to expire?
2. can this be exploited to avoid low score challenges (ie. probable losses) from stats?
3. can this problem be prevented by dev?

my suggestion is that a challenge left mid-question would become a loss at time of expiry.
any flaws in that solution?

Yes, the mechanism or the thing behind leaving the challenges untouch or abandoning the challenges to expire is that they(users) don't want to lose more challenges and if a high level maybe gold or platinum challenges they usually let it expire.
But they should decline challenges if they don't want to play them.

No, I think there are no flaws in it. It is nice solution as many challengers when they started challenge in middle they usually abandon it.It is a great idea.
