Java is totally different from Javascript. As of I heard, initially Javascript was named as LiveScript. In 1996 they changed the name into Javascript to attract java developers because java was very popular language at that time.

It's a markup language, not a scripting language.

The text editor doesn't matter, it's just that using something like notepad++ is recommended when editing code because it has cool features such as syntax highlighting, support for opening multiple files etc
