I am starting with C++ because it is (supposedly) harder and more low level than most other common languages, like C#. I want a good foundation before moving on to higher level languages.

It's probably a harder way to learn, though, kind of like learning how to drive on a manual car. But once you know how to drive a manual, it's very easy to learn how to drive an automatic (and you'll be a better automatic driver, too, because you'll have a better understanding of how your car works under the hood).
