Don't be fooled. php is the most used backend language worldwide and it is still popular anx alive. the latest version is released recently.
Php has some weaknesses and that may be compensated using other languages.

Mainly because there are new technologies that have a better design and performance than PHP.

Even so, PHP still has its utility, since in many cases rewriting an application in another language is simply unfeasible. And there are many places where it is still a highly used language.
