On what does the XPs that I take from my opponent in a challenge determined ?

I want to know what determines the number of XPs that I take from my opponent in a challenge , I noticed that in sometimes I play with people who are higher than me in level and take little XP and other people are less than me in level and I take from them much XP

It’s your level. If you’re a smaller level, you gain more XP, if you’re a higher level you gain less. And how much you lose is the same.
