What are the importance of learning machine learning?

Machine learning is creating algorithms which "learn" - that is, increase their efficiency in solving a task without being explicitly programmed to do so.

It is not *that* hard to learn it, but skills in mathematics, statistics, programming and some domain knowledge are really beneficial.
