PHP can do many things, from building desktop GUI app to dynamic website. But, it mainly use in website. It is most popular and also due to large community it is developing very fast. I have use python best web framework Django, but can say PHP laravel have more features then Django can have. and laravel is developing at fast rate, it new update release within every month. But, it depends upon you. Even, many of my senior web developers friends like ruby on rails then python's Django.
