is xamarin with visual studio ok to write a mobile app for android

hey guys :) i need aome help..i have to develop a mobile app for a project and i am wondering whether to use xamarinorto write it using silverlight.. i prefer the mobile app to be for andoid but i know no java.. so is xamarin ok foe this purpose

yes if u know any programming languages such as c#, then using xamarin extension on visual studio is a great choice. however, it takes some times to run or debug in VS, but the result is magnificent :-)
