You could check out the Python module SymPy for symbolic math. I've never used it myself, so I can't help you further with that, unfortunately.

Other than that, logic programming is typically used to solve symbolic tasks, for example with the Prolog programming language. It works very differently from "typical" multi-purpose programming languages like Python though.
