Books can help you understand some topic much more, but make sure you are reading latest book, not some what cover very old way of doing things, and maybe some features are not supported anymore, and are replaced with new one.

To learn best, build things with knowledge you have, this is how you can run into problems/bugs, than you need to find solution, many times you will need to look on internet and documentation to fix problem you have, this is part of learning. In that way you learn topic better, even learn some new things, and you have project or simple code to build your portfolio.
