it really depends on whar you are doing
webdesign
html css javascript etc
with webdesign you need to have at least a basic understanding of these 3 languages
general programs
one of major oop languages like java c# etc
having at least a basic understanding of one will give you understaning of others
gaming
c# is recomended in my opinion
again same thing as general programs but c# these days are used most with gaming more or less
do your research on what you want to do and the best steps forward for it. it does not take long to learn the basics of a language and sometimes basic knowledge of this is enough to get in a job. the only thing is that you never stop learning, best way to get better is to gain experience in writting programs.
In conclusion,
try to learn one language based on what you will be doing and get experience in it or at least a basic understanding of it.
hope this helps
happy coding

Yes, it's completely possible.
For web, HTML, CSS, JavaScript
For programming, Python, Java C++ (I find python to be the easiest)

Valid points, @Martin Taylor. I think you're right

* The answer depends on two things:
1) What do you mean by "short time"?
2) How strong is your interest in programming?
If you perceive "short time" as "nearly instantaneous", then no, unless you happen to be a savant.
If your perception of "short time" is comparable with something that negotiates the possibility, then your learning-speed will be dictated by your love and interest of the concepts being learned.
Summary: You will learn it at a speed equivalent to the height of your interest in the material.
