A lot of computer engineers at my college use c because it is such a low level language. They use it often when programming interfaces for hardware as well as embedded programming. It may or may not be directly related to your major, but having programming skills shows that you are a logical thinker and employers often respect that. Additionally, I have friends in all sorts of fields that are always asking me about how to start programming. The need seems to rise from a need to stay competitive with other people in their field. You can always use the skills to create tools to help with your work as well. That's where programming has it's roots.
