Can Ruby or Python be used for creating apps?

I haven't understood the fields where Ruby can be used yet. Is it used for app development? It seems that Java is the most used language for apps, but I find it more complicated than Ruby. Why are Ruby or Python never mentioned for creating apps?

Iuka, I appreciate your contribution, and I did read the discussion that you linked. However, I couldn't find what I was looking for, and I didn't search for it properly yet, as I thought someone could have a straight answer.. with your last answer, it seems that you are hitting the point, but could you be more precise, please? Is android (or apple) written in java so the apps are better to be written in java too? What Ruby or Python cannot do in app development that Java can?
