Reading, writing and arithmetic (mathematics) are recognized as fundamental life-skills. Further, knowledge, languages, science and society (history, geography) are also considered essential knowledge. In addition to these, physical well being (physical education, yoga etc.) have been included in this set of essential skills every educated person must master. The day programming is felt to be as essential as these other life skills, there will be change in policy and it will be included in the education system, no matter what it may cost. Though it would surely take decades for programming to reach the rural areas of India.
