which type of hosting is best for a website ? linux or windows

I am creating a dynamic website and I have written almost the index page of my site... and using xamm for server on windows ... Is it possible to switch to linux now? and I wanna know about ports like 8080 , 4444 I have no knowledge about ports please explain in details. Thanking you

It depends. If you use a CMS like Sitecore you want to use Windows IIS

Port is another point to reach your server. Default is 80. For example I am running IIS on 80 for dotnet sites and xammp for php on 88 on the same machine. If you run php you can easily switch to Linux
