Which programming language is best for data science in between Python and R ?

Both are equally good and have wonderful communities, rich libraries and well-documented solutions.
The main difference between them is that Python is a high-level, universal scripting language able to function in many different areas, while R is a closed-environment language for statistical computing exclusively. (think of it as VBA -- doesn't really do much outside MS applications)
It is not at all impaired, though, when it comes to mathematics and some say Python still has a lot to implement in some areas to match R's might.
