Is JavaScript a must for web development ?

Is there any alternative to JavaScript available? I wish to start learning about web development. I don't have slightest knowledge of JavaScript.

Well... you can embed applets and other stuff on webpages (like flash games writen with adobe actionscript although flash is dead now) there are many tricks you can do at specific fields if you want to avoid js but i wouldn't recommend any.

JavaScript is must have for web development. It is considered as one of most popular languages right now. Adobe announced to discontinue support of the Flash in 2020.
