Is it necessary to build one's own cryptocurrency or go with existing ones.

Question

there are already a number of cryptocurrencies flooding the network today. is it important to add others to this or try and stick with a few that actually address real needs. we don't want so many redundancies of the block chain application less it become less valuable. I don't see the need for competition in this domain. if it's going to stay decentralized, then I think there's no need for more cryptocurrencies.

I guess it is similar to quantities of programming languages. Are all of them needed? and the process of newly created programming languages is decentralized too.
next question , I anticipate, is "which cryptocurrency is better?" ;)
