I know this is an old post but two great resources I have used are 'An Introduction to Statistical Learning' by Tibshirani and Hastie and the Johns Hopkins Machine Learning course available on Coursera. I can give you a link to an example of what you can learn in that course (a static website I made with a write-up of my final course project), if you are interested.
