How can I create computer applications by java?

I'm learning java since half a year but I can't create any real usable applications till now although I know some GUI. Please help me!

Think back about the last 7 days, note down all the problems you faced and think if you can make a small program to solve it. Chose one problem and start implementing it. Desktop apps with GUI are good but if you can program it for Android then it would be great, if you faced it then some one in the world may also be facing it and he may use your app. All good apps are based on same concept, "SEE A PROBLEM, PROGRAM A SOLUTION", the bigger the problem / the better your app solve it, the more people will use your app.
