Is typing skills necessary in programming?
many people view a programmer/hacker/coder as a person who has super fast skills in typing. in movies the same happens... what's your view regarding typing skills in programing ?

1. Don't believe anything happens in the movies!
2. When u starts to code, your typing skills will improve on their own.
3. Yes, typing skills matters coz it helps in coding faster. But i'll always prefer someone who writes an efficient code in 1 day, than someone who writes a crap code in 1 hour.

My typing speed is actually 4 letters per minute 😂😂

@jOsMiK
That's quite fair. They are going to pay you for your work, so obviously they would want to hire a person who don't waste time on finding keys on the keyboard and worthy of every single penny they're paying.
Solution to this problem is, CODE A LOT! The more you code, the more your programming n typing skills will improve, so does your opportunities!

It helps but you don't particularly need to type fast to be a good programmer.Instead focus on learnig how to use logic and implement algorithms. However if you want to improve your typing speed you can download typingmaster, mecanet or visit typingclub.com if you want to do it online.

if your typing speed concerns you, write a program to help you practice your typing.
I made a simple one for the kids. it rains down letters from the top of the screen. type them to destroy them and it gradually speeds up. if letters hit the bottom, it gradually slows down. This keeps the speed at a level that grows with your skill helping you to improve

Fast typing helps of course. I think every programmer will increase typing speed over time.

it helps me impress other people while programming :p there are even websites to help you increase your typing speed

some companies prefer a person with high typing skills .....this has happened to me few months ago when I failed to write 70 words per minute as required during interview.

For beginners not necessary,it will increase gradually ,try to focus on Learning a Program.
Always try to remember that you are a Programmer not a Typist.

even if you don't know how to type you will type like a pro, if u have decided to learn programming ... & you don't have to do anything ...this.skill automatically inherits with the programming ability...as you become. more efficient programmer , your typing ..skills also become more...like a pro...

No! but it's cool to be fast in typing

I know how to type but don’t use it that often because my fingers don’t reach most of the syntax and I hate typing numbers.

What kind of job is that

Mines like 40 - 50 but I don’t do the other things like parentheses and such.

NO but learning to touch type without looking at the keyboard helps in competition.

almost it is better to have a good typing skill

If you can type blind, your hands are automatically typing what you think while you keep looking at the screen.
There are wonderful YouTube video tutorials, but I get tired of all the mistyped letters they have to correct. This takes a lot of time...
Typing slowly without looking and using 10 fingers is the fastest way, no doubt.
People who think they are as fast with 2 (or some more) fingers: Keep dreaming.
Take typing lessons for a few week, practice 15 minutes a day, and you can use this super skill for all your life. It's just like cycling: You will never forget.

I've been typing for decades, and all the { ] | > involved in programming still slows me down. it'll get easier, though.
