18. If you're old enough to work legally, you're old enough to find a software job.

The hard part is getting the first job. A degree and/or certificate definitely helps, but more and more businesses want proof of ability; most places want to see a portfolio that you can demonstrate if you don't have at least experience. Even then, some businesses may still require a portfolio. So at 18, if you have at least a project or two you can show off to a potential employer, you can get a decent start in the software industry.
