It depends on what are you working at. It depends on what you NEED.

If you want is just a text editor, then I'd like to suggest you Atom. It's free and has a lot of additional features or plugin like TeleType.

If you need a IDE, it will also depends on what language are you using. But visual studio is my favourite.

If you need a game engine which has a lot of features, third party plugins, and wide community, then I'd like to suggest you Unity3D
