As a web developer is it more marketable to study a client side language or a server side language?

It's more marketable to learn both client and server sides. It would make you a full stack developer and companies pay more for a full stack dev than either a front end or backend dev.

You can get a job as front end and learn backend while you are working. Then get a full stack job later on once you have learned backend.
