u can use any os depending which suits you, ideally for release various platforms Linux is best. previously red hat now days fedora or Ubuntu 9.x u can get version of GCC or clang for that.

If you get Ubuntu, please get newer Ubuntu than 9.x. Latest version is 16.04...
