As both are official languages for android development you can use either of them.Whichever you feel easy and comfortable.
Although Kotlin is new but is easier than java for learning.

Well, I personaly prefer Java, but at compile time kotlin is much faster than java, tough.
And to be honest Kotlin was created to be better than Java.

try flutter if you want to built cross platform app and if you do not want to go with flutter than go for java because "JAVA WILL NEVER DIE"

if that is the case I will suggest that you should go for python and then java. as they hold a big chunk of market and not android specific languages only. but have Kotlin in your side.

Kotlin helps you to reduce boilerplate codes which you can't get rid of them in java.
and much like java the Kotlin is multiPlatform language.

I am resourceful, whenever you decide what you are going to do, ask me for resource content, I'll definitely give a strong hint; most probably free!
