The main method isn't implied. If you don't put it, your Java program won't execute. It is contained in your program's class.

The main method can be contained inside ANY class, as long as you have it inside of at least one of your classes. It's just an entry/exit point to your program. By default, a class is created for your program and usually under the same name as your program, and your main is placed in there. Again, that's just by default, so you're more than welcome to put it elsewhere if you want, but that's usually a good place for it. Hope that explains it a bit better for you.
