What are some skills needed to be a professional programmer?

There are many technical skills that you can build in a lifetime with programming... However, I think one skill that doesn't normally get mention enough, and that is having some 'SALES' skills too... It is great to have all the technical aspects of programming (which at the end of the day - it is definitely a plus to have)... However, if you can't influence either your future employers or your potential clients - then this can have a negative affect on your bottom line. Just be mindful, as there will be times you will need to liaise with non-programming people within your career (and normally won't understand what you are talking about), and they may have the pot of cash to pay you for your next job. A little bit of sales skills can go a long way to be a professional programmer.
