Subdomains are taken as part of a domain for web storage? Or are taken as different domains?

There are 2 types of subdomains,
abs.website.com or
website.com/abc/
formats.

For SEO,
Subdomain, abs.website.com could consider as different domain from website.com with different content and designs.

Whereas subdomain website.com/abs should consider as part of the website.com domain.
