Is the PERL programming language dying a slow death or is it dead already?

Who here has used PERL? Is it still relevant today, e.g. for text processing tasks with international languages? Have newer languages like Python and Ruby caused it's decline?

It's not dead as long as people still use it, and yes, people still do.

While the trend doesn't show a positive outlook that Perl is growing, "dying" may not be the term which best describes its status. There are better articles which would give insight on whether or not Perl is indeed on its way to imminent death.

Remember that Ruby was also speculated to meet its end soon years back, which, evidently is untrue.

Python was experiencing no growth like 15 years ago and was pretty much considered as 'dead' as PERL is now.

These things definitely change over time.

I know someone (with gray/white hair) who insists on using Perl in as many things as possible... (as far as I understand, he works on some sort of OCR software for linguistics).
